Smartphone battery myths DEBUNKED!
Have you ever wondered that why the smartphone battery needs so much care? If you have, then you have been hearing many advices from some dumb people. Do our smartphone battery needs that much care? Let's see!
Myth no:1
Myth no 1 is don't use phone while it's charging. Actually there is no problem with it. You can play games, attend call or do anything you want. But make sure that the phone is in nominal temperature. Because, heat is the number 1 enemy of all electronic devices. Smartphone blasts are 99.9% due to overheating the battery. If you feel the phone getting warmer, then it's time to give some rest to your electronic friend.
Myth no:2
Myth no 2 is charging the phone overnight will blast the battery. Sounds fearful but not true. Today's smartphones are smart enough to cut the power to battery when it's full. Chance of overcharging is same to the chance of Indian engineers getting well paid job. But overnight charging is bad for battery health. Usually Li-ion batteries have a range of 400-600 charging/discharging cycles. If you full charge, it's counted as 1 charging cycle is complete. If you let the battery to 0% ,1 discharging cycle is complete. Usually batteries last upto their charge/discharge cycles is over.
Myth no:3
Myth no 3 is WiFi and Bluetooth turned on while not in use will drain battery . It's a misconception about WiFi and Bluetooth. They drain battery only when they're being used. If they are not being actively used, they don't drain your phone's juice. Yes the WiFi scans every 15secs but only when the phone is not asleep. It drains a negligible amount of power as like as amount of our brain being used!
Myth no:4
Myth no 4 is clearing the recently used apps saves power . Actually it's true only for rarely used apps or large apps like games or if you are not going to use the phone for couple of hours. Say , you are using whatsapp . You got a thought of missing a you tube video. You will jump to you tube, watch it and again jump to whatsapp ( as your relationship will be in trouble if you often reply late!) Clearing whatsapp while jumping to you tube won't save power in this occasion. Because reloading an app takes more power than running it for a while. Again today's smartphones are smart enough to kill the application if it drains more power. So don't kill the apps that you use more often.
Battery saving tips:
- Don't let the battery heat.
- Use Wi-Fi in the areas with poor network connection. The mobile keeps searching for a better connection which is not available in that area (e.g . Train) that results in battery drain.
- Use proprietary charger that comes with your smartphone. If you are an iPhone 12 series user, I am sorry!
- Turn on auto brightness if you are Amnesiac to adjust screen brightness.
- Don't use ultra fast chargers if you want your mobile to be with you for atleast 4 years. 10 or 18 Watts charger is more than enough.
